Its historical origins date back to the late 15th century. The Torta delle Rose was created for the wedding of Francesco II Gonzaga and Isabella D'Este. It was so appreciated by all the noblemen of the time that it became a part of Mantua’s gastronomic culture, and it is still made today following the ancient recipe.

The Torta delle Rose is made from a very soft leavened dough, rich in butter and sugar, which is rolled to form the characteristic shape of a basket of rosebuds, giving this delicious dessert its name. Best enjoyed dusted with powdered sugar and paired with a fragrant Chantilly cream.
